MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- It's a day of love for many, but for one Minneapolis couple, it's also a career. That's because April Davis is a matchmaker, and her husband Franz Davis is a divorce attorney.
There's no perfect formula for success, but the Davises have an advantage: each other. April Davis started her matchmaking service Cupid's Cronies five years ago with help from her husband.
"We both read the same material," April Davis said. "We were always talking about relationships in general and digging into things; a major topic for us in our discussions."
She serves male and female clients of different ages, scouting the perfect partner for each person and coaching people through the difficult relationship process so they will hopefully never have to consult her husband.
"I was hoping for a referral source, but it just hasn't materialized," Franz Davis said, laughing. "I think relationships require work. That's a very simple way of saying it."
Together, the Davises see the good, the bad, and the ugly, but they always hold out hope that love will conquer.
"I don't think that there's just one true love. I believe in soul mates, absolutely, but I believe that there can be more than one soul mate," April Davis said.
Among her rules for newly dating couples is to as much as possible avoid the couch and the remote control. Another huge rule of advice is never to text and date in the beginning. She said you're not being yourself if you're hiding behind a text. It is less personal.
If you want to be in the pool of people she searches for her clients, that service is free on her website. And, though hopefully you are not in need of a divorce, know that her husband also works out of Minneapolis.
