Police say a man in his 20s died nearly a week after officers in downtown Minneapolis found him slumped over in a vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting that occurred near Fifth Avenue South and Ninth Street South at approximately 6:34 p.m. last Friday.

According to an incident report, police rendered medical aid to the man, including CPR, before transporting him to Hennepin Healthcare.

Police say preliminary information indicates that following the gunfire, the man is believed to have driven from the location he was shot at, down a few blocks to Third Avenue South, striking a vehicle occupied by a family on the way.

No one in the struck vehicle was injured, officials say.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara announced Thursday that the man had died at the hospital. He was identified as 23-year-old Zakaria Abdikafi Noor of Oakdale.

"Any loss of life is deeply troubling," O'Hara said. "While a decline in violent crime offers some encouragement, each new act of violence — each life lost — reminds us how much work remains. Our investigators are fully committed to identifying the shooter and ensuring they are held accountable."

An investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made.
