National Guard Releases Details For Gen. Vessey's Funeral
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Army National Guard has released details of funeral services planned this week for retired Army Gen. John Vessey, a former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
A funeral for Vessey will take place Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Fort Snelling Chapel, where he married his wife Avis in 1945. Following the funeral, a celebration of Vessey's life and service will take place at 2:30 p.m. at the Boy Scout Base Camp near Fort Snelling. Both events are open to the public.
On Thursday, a public service will be held at noon at the Camp Ripley Chapel, including a horse-drawn caisson procession and a Blackhawk flyover. Private burial will follow at the Camp Ripley State Veterans Ceremony.
Vessey, a Minnesota native, died Aug. 18 at age 94.
