Ex-Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson arrested for suspected DWI in Twin Cities
Former Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was arrested early Friday morning for suspicion of driving while impaired.
The Minnesota State Patrol arrested Peterson in Richfield around 3:20 a.m., where they say he was going nearly 30 miles over the speed limit.
A state trooper stopped Peterson's Audi Q5 for allegedly speeding near southbound Highway 77 and 66th Street in Richfield. Prior to being pulled over, the trooper reported that Peterson was driving 83 mph in a 55 mph zone.
Peterson was then arrested for suspicion of DWI after he allegedly blew a 0.14% during a roadside breathalyzer test. There were four passengers in the car with him at the time, the state patrol said.
The arrest came just hours after Peterson was cheered on by Vikings fans at Thursday night's draft party at U.S. Bank Stadium. He did a media interview where he talked about working with young athletes and how much he misses playing in the NFL.
"I just kind of sit back and enjoy the process, you know. That's kind of what I've been doing. And I still have the heart. I'm like man, I'll be watching, and I'll be like, man, I know I can go out there and do that," said Peterson.
A seven-time Pro Bowl running back and former NFL MVP and Offensive Player of the Year, Peterson has had other legal problems over the years.
In December, two warrants were issued for his arrest for failure to appear in court in Texas, regarding child support cases.
In 2014, Peterson was also arrested for assault for using a wooden switch to punish his 4-year-old son. For Friday morning's DWI arrest, bail was set at $4,000.
The Hennepin County Jail said Peterson posted bail and has been released from custody.
According to records, Peterson's next court appearance for the DWI arrest is set for the morning of May 9 in Hennepin County.
After leaving the Vikings, the Texas native played for various teams, including the Washington Commanders and Detroit Lions. His last appearance on an NFL team was with the Seattle Seahawks in 2021.
