Fitzgerald Tackles Teacher Supply Requests At All Mpls. Schools
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Thousands of classrooms across the country are getting the help they need thanks to celebrity flash funding.
DonorsChoose.org is a website that lets teachers request crowd-funding for anything they need, like books, classroom supplies and field trips.
On Thursday, more than 50 actors, athletes, and entrepreneurs pledged $14 million to fully fund all public school grant requests in a specific area. Late Show host Stephen Colbert appeared on CBS This Morning to announce the challenge.
Colbert gave back to his home state by funding every classroom project in South Carolina on the crowdfunding website.
Closer to home, Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald Jr. had a surprise for teachers in his hometown of Minneapolis.
He funded all 58 projects in the city's 20 schools.
Fitz grew up in the city and went to Holy Angels in Richfield.
Most requests in the Twin Cities are for reading and math supplies.
