Complaint: Worker Stole More Than $1 Million From Brooklyn Park Co.

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Maple Grove woman is charged with stealing more than $1 million from her employer.

The Hennepin County Attorney's Office says 37-year-old Stephanie Ranee Davis is charged with 10 counts of theft by swindle. She had worked as the accounts payable clerk at Brooklyn Park's Reliable Medical Supply Co. since 2000.

An audit by her employer found that she stole $1,091,000 between 2011 and 2015, according to the criminal complaint.

She is accused of stealing a total of about $1.7 million over the past ten years. Funds embezzled before 2011 are past the statute of limitations.

Davis admitted in January to Reliable's CFO that she had been forging checks to herself since 2005 by creating fake vendors with names similar to real vendors.

She would then hide the fake names in the system so the checks would not be sent with the legitimate checks to the CEO to sign. Davis than allegedly would forge the CEO's signature on the fraudulent checks and cash them. She was fired immediately after the admission.

The criminal complaint also states that company officials told police Davis and her husband were seen removing items like boats, cars and snowmobiles from their property after she was fired.

Her first court appearance is set for March 22.
