Buses Will Replace LRT In Downtown This Weekend

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Some scheduled construction work means that buses will be replacing trains along a stretch of the Hiawatha LRT line this weekend.

From 6:30 p.m. Friday to 3:30 a.m. Monday, buses will move riders between the Target Field Station and the Franklin Avenue Station.

"Some of our planned construction and maintenance will be to replace the pavers at the Warehouse District Station," said Bruce Howard, the director of customer services and marketing for Metro Transit.

He also said some work is being done on the new Central Corridor Line near where it will meet up with the Hiawatha Line by the Metrodome.

"Customers should plan ahead, as buses will operate more frequently than trains, but they'll take a little bit longer to move throughout the downtown stations," Howard said.

Metro Transit staff will be at some stations to answer questions, and more information is available at metrotransit.org.

Train service from Franklin Avenue to the Mall of America will not be affected.
