Babbitt Cop Won't Be Disciplined After Shooting, Tasering
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The Babbitt Police Department ruled Wednesday one of its own officers acted within the means of guidelines in the recent shooting and Tasering of a suspect in a domestic disturbance case.
Department officials closed the case on Wednesday and said Officer Jon Shenett will not face any disciplinary action in the incident involving Derek Klingfus.
Authorities said Shenett was responding to a disturbance call on Jan. 24 when he deployed both his Taser and firearm, hitting Klingfus and injuring him. The report says Shenett acted to protect both himself and a child at the residence while he was investigating the disturbance.
Klingfus is accused of coming out of the home armed with a knife and with a 3-year-old girl that he was accused of stabbing.
When Klingfus didn't respond to his demands, Shenett tazed and shot Klingfus.
A review of the incident shows Shenett took the appropriate measures, including calling for back-up and giving verbal commands to Klingfus.
