Angler Alert: New Fishing Dock To Open On Lake Calhoun
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Have you always wanted a better chance at catching muskie in the northwest corner of Lake Calhoun?
Well the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board has a treat for you: A new fishing dock is soon to be installed just off a walking path in the northwestern part of the lake.
The board said the dock should be up in mid-July.
The dock will provide fishing access to varying water depths, including shallow pockets, so anglers can better catch muskie, walleye, largemouth bass, northern pike, and the many species of panfish that live in the lake.
In the 1980s, a dock was located on the west side of the lake. However, logistical issues prevented the dock from being useful.
The board also said a new dock will be installed on the southeast shore of Lake Hiawatha. It is also scheduled to open in mid-July.
Both docks were funded through the board's 2011 Capital Improvement Program budget.
