2 Arrests Made In Cromwell Shooting Deaths
CROMWELL, Minn. (WCCO) -- The Carlton County Sheriff said they've arrested two people in connection with the shooting deaths of a couple found dead near Cromwell, Minn.
Kim Schmitz and her boyfriend, Thomas Holm, were found shot to death inside a home on Jan. 9. Holm's burned pickup truck was found the night before near Saginaw, about 35 miles away. Inside the truck, they found evidence which included a partially-destroyed T-shirt.
"We're very relieved and very, very happy that the law enforcement was able to do this so quickly," said Angie Measner, who lives in Cromwell.
A $10,000 reward was being offered in the case, but in February, police said leads were slowing.
Carlton County Sheriff Kelly Lake said it was a tip from the public that led them to the arrests of 28-year-old David Annette and 25-year-old Rachel Dafoe in Hennepin County, just after midnight Wednesday.
Lake said Dafoe and Annette were acquaintances of the couple. They are currently in custody, facing possible second-degree murder charges.
"There's obviously going to be that feeling of, you know, obviously there was a tragedy here," Measner said. "But I think this community will pull together."
Schmitz and Holm were both 53 years old.
