Sports Agenda For Thursday (9/22/11)

Big Story:
So all that talk about conference shifting….yeah about that. Plus, FIU looks to go 3-0 this weekend; the Dolphins are a lost cause; and the Marlins won and lost yesterday.
Let's choke on this harder than the Dolphins do in crunch time.

Firsties/College Football:
We'll start with all the hubbub about conference realignment…as of now it's dormant.
The Big XII will stay together, what's left of it, and they'll target a new team asap
Of course the commissioner is out and equal revenue sharing will be in…but Texas is still being a schmuck about the Longhorn Network, so we'll see how long it lasts.
So, with that said, let's get our picks in for this week's games.
Notre Dame at Pittsburgh – Take the Irish
Georgia at Ole Miss – battle of the SEC bums, go with the Dawgs cause Ole Miss is flat pathetic
Arkansas at Alabama – take the Tide at home
Colorado at Ohio Stae – take the Buckeyes because they're at home
FSU at Clemson – tough call, but FSU's defense is far superior to Auburn's, so take the Noles but don't be shocked if the Tigers win
Kansas State and Miami – the U continues to win at home
Oklahoma State at Texas A&M – It'll be a shootout, take the Cowboys because they have the better QB
Florida at Kentucky – take the Gators BIG
FAU at Auburn – will FAU finally score a touchdown this week?
Vandy at South Carolina – take the Gamecocks behind Marcus Lattimore's running
Missouri at Oklahoma – don't bet against Stoops at home…damn that hurt to pick them over my beloved Tigers
LSU at West Virginia – take the Tigers, but West Va. might keep it close early, but LSU's defense is flat out NASTY
Oregon at Arizona – take the Ducks on the road over Zona
Rice at Baylor – sleeper alert, Baylor wins again this week
USC at Arizona State – if ASU can replicate the Mizzou atmosphere, take the Sun Devils…I'll take em at home against an overrated USC team
Louisiana Lafayette at FIU – the Golden Panthers win again this week to continue their undefeated quest!
Division II
Harding at UNA – take the Lions as my undergraduate school moves to number 2 in the country!!

Dolphins:
Our esteemed news partner, the Miami Herald, agreed with my take that Sparano's job is in serious JEOPARDY!
I'll take things the Dolphins can't do for $1000 Alex….the answer is: put fans in seats, win at home, cover receivers, play defense, have consistent play at quarterback, run the ball consistently, have a solid right tackle.
Seriously, it's high time that Stephen Ross make the plans for the coming offseason to clean house in the front office and coaching staff.
It's sooooo simple:
Call Bill Cowher up. Ask him what he wants. Give it to him. Draft a franchise quarterback at all costs next year. Enjoy the future of winning.
Seriously, Jeff Ireland is to general managing what I am to being a starting small forward in the NBA.
Maybe they'll finally get rid of the Fins' PR people to so that they finally have people who want to work with the media and the public instead of the Ft. Knox style secrecy that dominates one of the worst run franchises in the NFL.
Seriously, they're making the Bengals front office look competent and that's saying something.
I feel bad for the stars like Brandon Marshall, Jake Long, etc.
But with a few moves, things will get better…right?!
By the way, on the road against the Browns, take the Fins…IF…they can establish the run early.

Heat:
No news, lockout is still crippling the league.
So much for capitalizing on the Big 3 again.
The window on Miami's chances to win a championship just got a little smaller.

Marlins: (Friday @Milwaukee Brewers, 8:10 p.m., Fox Sports Florida)
Your last place Marlins put another chink in the armor of the Braves who are falling fast in the wild card race.
Not that it matters because no one is beating the Phillies starting pitching.
So the Marlins are 27.5 games back and 14 games under .500 for the season.
There are six games left in the history of the Florida Marlins.
If they lost all six they'd lose 91 games. That's a tough feat, but considering they're playing the Nationals for three of the games, anything is possible.
After the last game, the Miami Marlins are born
Now let's see if the team realizes that the logo that came out yesterday was truly pathetic…or if the Marlins are really that tone deaf to the fans.
