Sports Agenda for Thursday (5/10/12)
Big Story:
Sayonara Knicks, here's a nice parting gift…a summer vacation. The Heat have to set the pace in the next series (lame pun). The Marlins are the cardiac kids and finished off the best road trip in team history. And the ACC cashed in.
Quote of the Day:
"At 20, a man is full of fight and hope. He wants to reform the world. When he is 70 he still wants to reform the world, but he knows he can't." – Rodney Dangerfield.
Miami Heat:
Good night Knicks.
Should've been a sweep, but whatever, it's done and in the books.
Time to move on to the Indiana Pacers.
Danger. Danger. Danger.
Indiana improved every time they played the Heat this season.
The Pacers will lean heavily on David West in the low post, so it will be interesting to see who Spo puts on him.
I'd almost say LeBron, simply because he's the most athletic and physical defender the Heat have.
Bosh is good, but I'd rather his long body work with the taller Hibbert.
Udonis used to play defense, but ahs struggled at times this season.
There's also Ronny Turiaf who could guard Hibbert and send Bosh over to West.
The series will also see the Pacers try to get Hill and Granger heavily involved.
For Miami, they need to get D-Wade and Bosh going early to open the lanes up.
Bosh will be key in the series, trust me.
What's going to be interesting is to see if Philly can put away the 76ers and if the Celtics can finish off the Hawks.
If Philly takes out Da Bulls and maybe Atlanta takes the Celtics to 7 games, that's great news for the Pacers/Heat.
Realistically, the Eastern Conference is Miami's to lose.
They know this, they can't get complacent or a team like the Pacers will knock them out.
Miami has to find that fire that burns for that NBA title and ride the wave of it all the way.
FYI, the Heat are 3-1 during the regular season against the Pacers.
Indiana's lone win was in March, I believe, when the Heat were completely on cruise control.
Still, Miami needs about 20 – 25 points from the bench to make this series a little bit easier.
Miami Marlins: (off Thursday)
Now that's how you finish off a road trip.
The Fish went to extra innings after another blown save chance and still managed to knock off the Astros.
They finished the road trip 8-1.
For a team that was struggling for any win in April, that's pretty darn impressive.
Now comes the bigger challenge….winning at home.
I think the coaches need to get in these players' heads and tell them that you don't have to hit homers every time at home.
Four straight singles works just as well. A double's nice too.
The Marlins are now just 2.5 games out of first place in the NL East.
Not bad.
They've got Buehrle going on Friday, so that should help ease any pitching concerns.
The Fish need to play well against the Mets to really assert themselves as an NL East contender.
The Fish play three at home against the Mets this weekend and finish off the five game homestand on Monday and Tuesday against the Pirates.
ACC Update:
Well, if FSU and the Big XII were talking, the rumors can be put to bed now.
The ACC cashed in big on a new television deal yesterday and that means FSU will now get roughly $17 million annually from the deal
KACHING!
It's still not Big Ten or Pac 12 money, and it's still not the SEC, but FSU coffers are a lot happier today.
Now comes the big renegotiation….the SEC.
It was the richest deal at one time and now the conference can renegotiate for some REALLY big cash.
