Sports Agenda For Monday (5/2/11)
Big Story:
The Heat take Game 1, the Dolphins butcher another draft, the Marlins win another series, and Osama bin Laden just met the backhand of Barack Obama. That's a heckuva weekend right there!
Heat: (Game 2, Tuesday 7:00 P.M., TNT)
The Heat came out ready to play physical on Sunday afternoon. They took it to the Celtics who likely weren't expecting the Heat to come out and play so hard.
Paul Pierce was ejected, D-Wade went off, James Jones went off, and don't look now, but the Heat are up 1-0 in the series.
I think Game 2 will be the key though. If the Heat can win Game 2 at home and take a 2 game lead back to Boston, then this will be a quick series for the Heat. Drop Game 2, and it will be a slobber-knocker of a series.
Dolphins:
Wow, where do I start.
You've heard my thoughts on Pouncey. Good player, not worth the 15th pick.
But, let's look at Daniel Thomas, the Fins' second-round pick. I don't think anyone had him rated as a second-round pick. Having watched the Big XII religiously, here's what I can tell you about Thomas. Against good competition, he played okay, not a superstar. Against bad competition, he lit them up like a Xmas tree.
He's a big, physical runner who can also run the Wildcat and catches the ball out of the backfield well. He's essentially a slower, more physical version of Ronnie Brown.
This leads me to believe that either, A) the Fins are going after D'Angelo Williams in free agency, or B) the Fins don't have any clue what they're doing.
I wish I had faith in the Fins' management, but it honestly looked like they watched Bill Parcells' ESPN special and drafted based on that.
Parcells' philosophy worked….20 years ago. It's antiquated and will not work in the modern NFL. It may get you to the playoffs, but it will not win a Super Bowl.
Guess Fins' fans should either hope Carson Palmer drops in their laps, or they should start cheering for the Fins to "Suck for Luck (Andrew Luck)"
Marlins: (@ St. Louis Cardinals, 8:15 p.m., Fox Sports Florida)
The Marlins come off taking 2 of 3 games in Cincinnati and travel to St. Louis today to start a four-game series with the Cardinals. The Fish aren't home until Friday when they start a series with the Nationals.
The Fish's win on Sunday keeps them ½ game behind the NL East Phillies after one month of action. Not bad guys, not too bad at all.
Ricky Nolasco pushed his record to 3-0 on the season and his ERA sits at 3.35 this year after Sunday's victory.
Chris Volstad goes for the Marlins tonight against the Cardinals' Kyle Loshe. Volstad is 2-1 this season with a 5.32 ERA. His last start was a victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers.
A couple of notes: Nice to see the Marlins' lineup really getting after it. I'll be happier when Hanley's finally hitting above the Mendoza line, but a win is a win.
And if you didn't see Stanton's homer in the 8th inning last night, yeah, it's a BOMB!
Finally, it's your daily dose of FAIL/WIN/AWESOME
