Report: After Bills Paid, Floridians Among Least Likely To Have Leftover Loot

FLORIDA (CBSMiami) — We all like to have extra disposable income. Unfortunately, after paying the bills, Floridians are among the least likely to have money to spare.

According to a new On Numbers report cited in the South Florida Business Journal, Florida ranks 48th in disposable income growth among all states, with a growth rate of 6.87 percent.

For its part, Miami can blame salaries that are out of sync with high housing and transportation costs, per a recently released study.

On the other end of the cash spectrum, North Dakota takes the top spot with per capita disposable personal income up 42.2 percent during the most recent five-year period, as tracked by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis.

No other state registered an increase larger than 24 percent over that span. Disposable income grew by 11.7 percent nationally during the half-decade, barely outstripping the inflation rate of 11.6 percent.
