N4N Helps Davie Homeowners Stung By Bee Problem

DAVIE (CBS4) - The scary sound of buzzing bees have been heard in Sivia Maldonado's kitchen for months.

"There was a bunch of bees all up the wall and the ceiling" Maldonado explained to CBS4's Nicole Maristany.

Maldonado and her family tried everything to get rid of the pests.

"There were like, so many that we had like 5 bottles fighting them all the way down, and it was a battle for like 2 hours, We were stung in the neck, the lips, arms, legs it was horrible"

It was especially horrible because it was a big health concern for her family.

"I'm allergic to it and my youngest daughter is also allergic to it" said Maldonado.

Unable to afford an expensive bee removal service, Maldonado reached out to the Town of Davie who turned to Rebuilding Together Broward County.

"We provide free home safety upgrades and modifications to very low income and elderly, disabled and veteran homeowners" explained Sandra Einhorn the Executive Director of Rebuilding Together Broward County.

Rebuilding Together called on some of their non-profit partners like Neighbors 4 Neighbors for help.

"As I went to go hit send on the e-mail, I looked down and had a pen from guess who, Willie the Bee Man!" explained Einhorn.

Willie offered to help with the big bee problem.

"There were probably about 50,000 bees in there. They were in 3 or 4 columns of the cinder blocks about three feet in each tow" Willie the Bee Man explained as he showed all of the honeycombs he removed from Maldonado's walls.

Soon the bees were long gone, and Maldonado was a happy homeowner once again. "

[I can] live in peace and without the worry" a relieved Maldonado explained.
