Miami Breaks Record High Temp For The Day

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Yes, the calendar says it's February, but South Florida saw a record high temperature on Sunday.

The National Weather Service reports that just after 1:30 p.m., the temperature at Miami International Airport hit 87 degrees which broke record high for the day of 86 degrees set back in 1957.  The last time the daily record reached a tie was in 1988.

Ft. Lauderdale hit 87 degrees, just two degrees short of the record of 89 degrees set back in 1926.

The hot, hot, hot day time temps won't hang around very long.

A strong cold front will move through around midnight on Monday and drop our temperatures by around 10 degrees on Monday, President's Day.  The front may bring with it a shower or two.

By mid-week, temperatures will warm back into the 80s.
