Lions Honored With Special Meat Cake At Busch Gardens
TAMPA (CBSMiami/AP) - On Mother's Day, moms usually get flowers and possibly go out for brunch. On Father's Day, dads are often adorned with neck ties. On World Lion Day, the lions at Busch Gardens are gifted with a special meat cake.
In addition to specially lion-only prepared meat ice pops, Busch Gardens will honor the "king of the jungle" with an appearance from three new lion cubs.
The cubs, Kembe, Shtuko and Shaba will make their appearance when they come out to enjoy a slice of the cake prepared by the Edge of Africa Zoo Team, along with the Zoo Education Team.
Lions won't be the only ones feasting—the theme park will also have cake for the humans to eat.
On Sunday, the park is celebrating the 7th birthday of two female lions, Iris and Rose. Simon, a male lion, turned seven earlier this year and will also join the festivities.
The SeaWorld & Busch Gardens Conservation Fund supports various lion protection projects in Africa, including educating native populations about how to live harmoniously with the animals.
