MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A man who said he was growing and smoking marijuana for medicinal purposes was found not guilty Monday.

Jesse Teplicki, 50, was found not guilty of criminal charges by a Broward County jury Monday.

Teplicki, a Hollywood resident, was arrested after deputies found 46 pot plants. He said he has chronic anorexia and he would smoke marijuana for treatment.

"This was a groundbreaking case and we are very pleased that the jury acquitted Mr. Teplicki on all charges," said Teplicki's attorney Michael Minardi in a statement.

Teplicki faced five-year prison sentence if convicted.
