HMS Dauntless Arrives At Miami's Port

MIAMI (CBS4) - A special visitor from 'across the pond' is temporarily calling the Port of Miami home.

Her Majesty's ship "Dauntless" arrived at the port just after 8 a.m.

This British destroyer is a high-tech pride of the Royal Navy. It's the fifth warship to bear the name "Dauntless" if you don't count the fictional one in the movie "Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl."

The ship will visit Miami for four days, allowing approximately 200 crew members a well deserved shore leave.

Visiting Royal Navy ships sometimes take part in cooperative security operations with US Coast Guard or other military task forces based in Florida. Last year, HMS Manchester spent six months in the Caribbean participating in joint counter-narcotics operations, as well as remaining on stand-by for disaster relief operations throughout hurricane season.
