BSO: Speech Doc Had Child Porn On Computer
PEMBROKE PINES (CBS4) - A Broward speech pathologist was charged with 50 counts of possession of child pornography after hundreds of images of children in sexually explicit positions were reportedly found on his home computer.
"I'm furious! I'm absolutely furious," said neighbor Grace Martino.
Most people in his Pembroke Pines neighborhood knew him as the guy who kept the perfect yard.
When Broward Sheriff's deputies followed up on dozens of tips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about a computer uploading and sharing child pornography, they were led to the Pembroke Pines home of 66-year-old Warren Day.
The sheriff's office said when detectives went to Day's home to serve a search warrant, Day answered the door in his underwear and deputies say he was on his computer viewing a child pornography website.
During an initial search of Day's files, investigators allegedly found hundreds of images of children between one and 12 years of age engaging in sexual acts with adults and other children in sexually explicit positions.
Day reportedly refused to answer questions without the presence of his lawyer, but stated "I am a piece of (vulgar term for excrement)" in the presence of BSO detectives.
More charges could be filed pending a full analysis of Day's computer and two other media devices found inside his home.
During a hearing Wednesday morning, bond was set at $500,000. In fact, as the judge was trying to tally up the number of counts against him, Day blurted out, "50!" After counting the judge agreed.
Conditions of his release include turning in his passport, no Internet access, not allowed to download material from the Internet and he must not have any private interactions with females under the age of 18-years-old.
One reason for the high bond, the judge is concerned about his past.
"The court is concerned there is a pattern of behavior," said Judge John Hurley. "This is not the first time you've been involved with anything regarding sexual matters, regarding underage women."
In 1982 he was arrested in Dade County for committing a sexual act against a child and served two years probation. Due to the date of his offense, he was not required to register as a sexual offender.
For the past seven months, Day worked as a speech pathologist at the Hollywood Rehab Center working with seniors. However, throughout his 30-year career he has come in contact with children from kindergarten to high school. He was previously employed by the Dade County School System, officials said
