Hurricane Dorian lashed the coast of North Carolina and South Carolina Thursday, leaving hundreds of thousands of people without power. Meanwhile, a massive rescue and relief effort was underway in the Bahamas, where there was widespread devastation.
More than 2 million residents in Florida, Georgia and North and South Carolina were warned to evacuate.
More than 50 crew members from Los Angeles city and county fire departments were deployed to North Carolina Tuesday evening to help with the response to Hurricane Dorian as the storm nears the United States mainland.
The LAFD will send 41 crewmembers to assist those impacted by Dorian in the southeast U.S.

Dorian, now a Category 4 storm, is expected to make landfall on the Florida coast late Monday or early Tuesday. The storm could be the strongest to hit Florida since Hurricane Andrew in 1992.
Travelers flying home to Florida from LAX Thursday night worried about what's in store for them as Hurricane Dorian bears down on the state.
