Six arrested during Riverside County immigration protests

At least six people were arrested during an hours-long demonstration over President Donald Trump's immigration policies in Riverside County on Monday.

The gathering, which lasted for about nine hours after starting at 9 a.m., was declared an unlawful assembly after Riverside County Sheriff's Department deputies claim that members of the crowd started throwing rocks and bottles at them.

Nearly 500 people gathered at points throughout the day, according to deputies, who said that the rally moved to different intersections along Perris Boulevard throughout the day.

The event was mostly peaceful until around 6 p.m., at which point law enforcement says people were throwing items at them.

"At that point, the assembly was declared unlawful, and the crowd was instructed to disperse," according to a statement from RSO.

Video from the scene shows as authorities used "less than lethal" projectiles to try and make the crowd leave the area. BearCats were also called to assist but by the time CBS News Los Angeles crews arrived to the scene they appeared to have left.

Deputies said that of the six arrests, four were for obstruction and two were for alleged assault with a deadly weapon, the statement said.

California Highway Patrol officers assisted deputies as they monitored the gathering.

This is one of may protests taking place across the country since Sunday, with notable demonstrations in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, which involved blocking the 101 Freeway to create a massive traffic backup and students walking out of class. More than 200 participants were detained by LAPD on Monday.
