Northern California Teen Accused Of Killing His Father With An Ax

ELK GROVE (AP) — Police say an Elk Grove man is dead and his teenage son is facing charges after the teen allegedly used an ax to kill his father.

The Sacramento Bee reports that officers found 44-year-old Darrell DeWitt dead when they were called to his apartment Tuesday evening.

His 19-year-old son, also named Darrell DeWitt, was found in the apartment with several stab wounds to his upper body.

The younger DeWitt was taken to a hospital with what investigators describe as superficial injuries. They believe the stab wounds were self-inflicted.

Police say they found an ax they believe was used to kill the father.

The younger Dewitt is in custody at a local hospital, where he is receiving medical treatment.

Police say he will be booked on suspicion of murder when his medical condition improves.
