Mother of 4 killed, teen hurt when gunman shoots into window of Greater Grand Crossing home; no one in custody

A mother of four is dead and a teen boy was injured when they were struck by gunfire that came through the window of a home in Great Grand Crossing overnight.

Chicago police said at about 12:50 a.m., a 17-year-old boy and 37-year-old woman were in a home in the 7600 block of S. Eberhart Ave. when gunfire came in through a window and struck them both.

The teen was struck in the left hand and taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition. The woman was struck in the body multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Family identified the woman was Latoya Norals, a proud mother of four who had just celebrated two of her teenage daughters graduating from Chatham Academy Charter High School.

Norals' family said she was in her home with three of her four children and a 17-year-old friend of one of her daughters when at least one gunman drove up to the house and started shooting. They said she went upstairs for a moment before coming back downstairs, and another round of gunshots rang out.

Along with her daughters, Norals was the mother of twin 12-year-old boys, one of whom wasn't home at the time of the shooting. Her family said she worked in food service at Shirley Ryan Ability Lab to provide for her children.

The teen is expected to recover. An investigation by Area Two Detectives is ongoing. No one is currently in custody.
