Downtown LA pursuit suspect crashes into vehicle, flips car
The police pursuit of a reckless driver in a stolen truck in downtown Los Angeles ended when the suspect driver crashed into another vehicle, causing it to flip over.
The driver of the white pickup truck drove recklessly through DTLA streets on Friday morning, reaching speeds of up to 83 mph. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers downgraded from pursuit to tracking mode, as the suspect was driving erratically.
At the intersection of Trinity Street and East Washington Boulevard, the stolen truck driver crashed into an SUV, forcing it up on the curb, and then it tumbled and flipped over in a sunken lot. Police detained the suspect driver after the crash.
First responders transported the victim from the crashed SUV to the hospital. The extent of her injuries is unknown at this time.
The owner of the smashed-up, stolen truck showed up at the scene and said he had just gotten his truck back last week, as it had been stolen from him. "And all my tools were stolen, but this time they didn't get any of my tools … I was still trying to get my stuff put back together," truck owner Shelby Hazelett said.
According to the LAPD, they began pursuing the truck at 7:22 a.m. near Wall and 5th Street. The pursuit ended six minutes later at 7:28 a.m.
As a maintenance worker in the area and with his work truck destroyed, Hazelett said he's now in a horrible spot. "I don't know how I am going to get to work, I don't know how I'm going to do my job."
