New 'Ban Bossy' Campaign Aims To Get Rid Of Damaging Label
NEW YORK (CBS) - A new ad campaign banning the word "bossy" argues the label is holding girls back.
CBS in New York says it asked some high schoolers about the label, and the students said it was negative.
"I think 'bossy' — you know, it's, like, offensive," said high school sophomore Natalie Gomez.
Another student said, "It's just like saying you're controlling. I think it's a controlling word."
In a public service announcement titled, "I'm Not Bossy. I'm the Boss," actress Jennifer Garner, Beyonce, Condoleezza Rice, Jane Lynch, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, and U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan emphasize how damaging the term can be.
Sheryl Sandberg's nonprofit, Lean-in, the Girl Scouts, and Lifetime Television joined forces for the "Ban Bossy" campaign. They hope girls will strive to teach their full potential, despite the opposition.
