Wise County Sheriff's K-9 Officer Shot Dead By Suspect

NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A Wise County Sheriff's Office K-9 officer has been shot dead and the man believed to have killed the K-9 is also dead.

According to authorities, a pursuit ensued after a male driver refused to pull over for Montague County Sheriff's deputies. The suspect exited his vehicle and began running at Aujla Road and Picket Run Road, near the Montague/Wise County line.

Authorities called for a K-9 unit to help with the search and Wise County Sheriff's responded.

The K-9 officer, a 2-year-old named Pepper, soon located the suspect and was in pursuit. At some point, the suspect allegedly shot and killed K-9 Officer Pepper. In response, a deputy who was also in pursuit, shot and killed the suspect.

The Texas Rangers and Texas Department of Public Safety have been called to assist with the investigation.
