Tarrant County Joins List Of Counties With Outdoor Burning Ban

TARRANT COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) - Tarrant County has joined the growing list of North Texas counties to issue an outdoor burning ban.
The County Commissioner's Court approved the ban that prohibits all outdoor burning in Tarrant County. Officials with the Texas Forest Service confirm the unincorporated ares of the county are experiencing drought conditions.
Tarrant County Fire Marshal's Office officials say the burn ban, which will be in place for 90 days, is an effort to protect lives and property. As for the much beloved weekend and holiday cookouts, the Marshal's Office says outdoor grilling is still permitted, but residents should use common sense when handling flammable materials.
The Office issued a few guidelines to follow when cooking outdoors:
- Keep flames covered during the operation of your gas grill.
- When using a charcoal or wood-burning grill, it must be places on a concrete, gravel or dirt surface and be at least five feet away from combustible materials. The same guidelines apply when using a smoker.
- Be sure to have a water source, i.e. a bucket of water or garden hose, on hand in case of an emergency.
