Strange Noise Makes Six Flags Operator Shut Off Texas Giant

ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) – A Six Flags operator heard a strange noise come from the 14-story Texas Giant Sunday, causing him to stop the ride and leave about two-dozen riders stuck at the top.

Six Flags employees helped riders walk down a long set of stairs built into the side of the roller coaster.

"It was right at the very top," said Eliza Natera, a rider. "It seemed like they did everything they could to protect the people that were on the ride."

The Texas Giant was also closed Friday, officials said, because of a computer glitch. No one was injured in either incident.

The wooden rollercoaster originally opened in 1990, but was reintroduced this year with a steel track, promising a smoother, steeper ride. It was closed for about a year while it underwent the $10 million renovation.

The park said the train that experienced problems "is being removed from operation and will undergo a full inspection."
