Public Invited To SMU To Pray For Orlando Shooting Victims

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Many North Texas residents will join students, faculty and staff at Southern Methodist University to spend their lunchtime praying for and remembering victims of the nightclub mass shooting in Orlando.
At noon today the Perkins School of Theology and the SMU Office of the Chaplain and Religious Life will host "A Midday Service of Lament and Prayer, in Response to the Tragedy in Orlando."
Memorials continue to grow around the world as people come to grips with the worst mass shooting in American history and the loss of so many innocent lives. The time of prayer in Dallas today is meant to send a message of solidarity to the city of Orlando.
Organizers say the memorial service is a way for the community to come together and support those who died and lost loved ones in the Florida attack.
The Professor of Worship at Perkins, Dr. Mark Stamm, and SMU Chaplain Steven Rankin will lead the service. Stamm said, "We're not gonna overwhelm people with lots of words today. We will have things we'll say, but it's not gonna all be about be the words that we speak."
While the event is being held on the SMU campus it is open to the public and everyone is invited to attend and show their support.
The "Midday Service of Lament and Prayer, in Response to the Tragedy in Orlando" will take place at noon in the Perkins Chapel, located at 5901 Bishop Boulevard in Dallas.
