FLOWER MOUND, Texas (1080 KRLD) - A scammer is on the loose in Flower Mound and getting residents to give their debit card information over the phone.

Flower Mound police Captain Wess Griffin says the male suspect is calling people claiming to be "Leuitenant Reid" from the police department.

The unknown man claims he is collecting a fine for running a red light camera, but there are no red light cameras in Flower Mound.

Capt. Griffin says most people don't know that, which makes it easier for this scammer.

According to police, the suspect has collected over $3,000 from victims in the last week.

Officers are tracking him as best they can, though it's harder with him working by phone.

Griffin says residents should not give their debit card info to any stranger, and real government officials would never ask for it.
