One Dead In Officer Involved Shooting

DENTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Police are investigating an officer involved shooting that resulted in the death of a man early Sunday morning.

Ryan Grelle with the Denton Police Department says at around 2:35 a.m. officers were called to a residence on the 3600 Block of Dunes Street where a witness said she heard a gunshot. When officers arrived the caller described the vehicle the shooter was in.

Officers then spotted the vehicle leaving the area and followed after it. The officers attempted to pull the vehicle over but the suspect continued to drive to the 3300 Block of Hartlee Field Road where he pulled into a driveway.

According to Grelle officers attempted to make a felony traffic stop, when the suspect stepped out of the vehicle with a rifle.

When officers ordered the suspect to drop the weapon he refused. An officer then shot the suspect.

The suspect was taken to Medical City Plano by CareFlight. Doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival.

The suspect has since been identified 26-year-old as Justin Beltran.

No other injuries were reported.

Investigators from the Texas Rangers and the Denton Police Department are looking into the shooting.
