Off-Duty Officer Hurt After Confronting Burglary Suspects

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A female off-duty Dallas police officer was injured early Friday morning, after confronting a trio of burglary suspects at her apartment complex.

It happened just after midnight in the parking garage at the Arts Apartments near downtown Dallas, on Ross Avenue at Routh Street.

Officials say the officer was off-duty but still in uniform as she entered the complex parking garage and saw three people breaking into parked vehicles.

The officer got out of her vehicle and confronted the suspects. Her foot was run over during the confrontation.

Two of the suspects ran from the scene, and despite her injuries, the officer was able to take the third suspect -- who was driving the car that hit her -- into custody.

The officer, who has not been identified, was taken to Baylor Medical Center as a precaution, but her injuries are not considered serious.

Investigators are still trying to determine if the car that hit the officer was stolen or belonged to one of the crooks. Dallas police haven't said if they were able to locate the other suspects.

It was just over two months ago when a different off-duty Dallas police officer, Amber Guyger, arrived at her apartment complex, also downtown, and shot and killed resident Botham Jean in his apartment.

Guyger, who was later charged with Manslaughter, told officers that she had gone to the wrong apartment and mistook Botham for a burglar.
