MedStar Paramedic's Mansfield Home Destroyed By Fire While At Work

MANSFIELD, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) - The home of a long-time MedStar paramedic went up in flames while he was out working early Thursday morning, officials said.

Mansfield firefighters battled the fire starting at around 3:45 a.m. in the 600 block of Live Oak Drive near Fort Worth Street. Flames were seen shooting from the roof when crews first arrived.

Investigators believe the fire was caused by an electrical issue.

MedStar said their paramedic was called about the fire while he was working. His wife was also working her night shift as a nurse at the time of the fire.

However, fire officials said the family had six dogs at the home. Five of them were pronounced dead and another is unaccounted for.

MedStar said it is providing assistance to the family as the home received extensive damage from the fire.

"Our employee wished us to share that he and his family are grateful for all the expressions of support and prayers for them, and wishes to thank the Mansfield Fire Department for their excellent response to this tragedy," MedStar said in a statement.
