DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Dallas police have one man in custody for a fatal stabbing along the White Rock Trail early Monday morning. Former Texas A&M football player Thomas Johnson is suspected in the random crime.

Police received several 911 calls just before 8:00 a.m. Monday reporting a stabbing north of White Rock Lake where the trail goes under Walnut Hill Lane.

When officers arrived they found a man, with stab wounds, along one of the trails. Officials confirm the man was taken to an area hospital, but died from his injuries.

For much of the day a section of the popular Dallas trail was blocked off with crime scene tape.

Cyclists Mark Mumby said in his 35 years of riding the trail he has never seen an incident like this.

"It's pretty rare and I still think the trail is pretty darn safe," he said. "It's not going to stop me from using it."

However other cyclists were not as certain about returning to the wooden section of the trail.

"I'm very hesitant to come out here by myself," Cindy Kindl, an avid cyclist, said. "It's so wooden here and so dense that anybody could come out of the brush anytime here.":

Dallas police have not released the identities of the suspect or the victim.
