Lewisville Man Jailed After Ramming Truck Into Denton County Jail

DENTON (CBSDFW/AP) - A Lewisville man rejoined his son behind bars after smashing his vehicle into the Denton County jail when his visitation request was denied.

Rolando Hernandez arrived at the Denton County Jail Saturday afternoon around 1:00 p.m. to see his son, who has been held on an aggravated robbery charge in the jail since February 6.

Deputies quickly determined Hernandez was too intoxicated to allow the visitation and told Hernandez he should not try to drive away.

Hernandez did not take their advice and attempted instead to drive his pickup truck into the jail, ramming a fence and hitting a side wall of the jail's west wing.

The impact left two inmates with minor injuries. Both were knocked from their beds Saturday afternoon by the impact.

Hernandez was taken to a Denton hospital before being released and booked into the very same jail he hit hours before.

He now faces two counts of aggravated assault and a criminal mischief count.  His bond was set at $250,000.

The jail was briefly on lockdown while repairs were made to the fence and side of the building.  No inmates were able to escape and the sheriff's department says no extensive damage was done to the building since it was made of concrete.

Damage estimates are pending.

Hernandez was also arrested and booked through the Denton County jail on February 11 for a Public Intoxication/Accident causing less than $200 charge from Hickory Creek.  He was released that day on a $5,000 bond.
