DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Khloe Kardashian has amassed over five million followers on Twitter, and she leveraged that audience on New Year's Day to help save endangered tigers around the world. After spending New Year's Eve in Minnesota with her Dallas Mavericks husband Lamar Odom, she arrived back in Dallas on Sunday and tweeted out a call to action.

Her tweet stated, "By texting TIGERS to 20222, your $10 donation will help WWF save the tiger in its vast range – from India to China, to the Russian Far East."

Some of Kardashian's fans responded – both with helpful texts and their own tweets that confirmed the donations and helped spread the word. Kardashian even tweeted that she convinced her mother, Kris Jenner, to send a text and help save the tigers.

Kardashian responded to her fans: "Aww I hope we all are saving a lot of wild life!!! I see a lot of you guys tweeting that you have sent the text! Yay for animals!!!"

A representative for the World Wildlife Fund told TMZ on Tuesday that the tweet was met with an a "huge jump" in responses. More than 600 people texted in a donation within two days, to raise more than $6,000 for tiger conservation.

The money raised goes to science and research in regions where endangered tigers live, in order to find ways to keep the animals better protected.

The representative also told TMZ that both Kardashian and Jenner adopted a tiger online.
