Johnson County Sheriff's Deputy Shot And Killed

VENUS (CBSDFW.COM) -A Johnson County sheriff's deputy was shot and killed Saturday responding to a domestic violence call, police said.

Deputy Clifton Taylor, another unnamed deputy and an officer with the Venus Police Department responded to the call around 4:30 p.m, sources said. Upon police arrival, neighbors told Taylor that the suspect, Wesley Davis, had fled to a shed on the property and was armed.

Taylor opened the shed door and Davis opened fire. The deputy was shot in the neck, side and back. The other responders returned fire on Davis, killing him, Sheriff's Department officials said.

"He opened the shed door and a shot was fired, evidently from the inside," a neighbor, who did not give his name, said. "The officer went straight back."

Taylor was flown by Careflight to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth where he died, Johnson County Sheriff's Office confirmed. During a press conference Saturday night, sheriff's officials said Taylor started about two years ago and was engaged to be married.
