Granbury Woman Murdered While Calling 911 For Help

HOOD COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) - A Hood County woman was murdered while she was on the phone with a 911 operator.

65-year- old Lavera Aiken Dooley was gunned down while she was calling for help.

Hood County authorities say Lavera, a well know insurance agent from Granbury, was killed by her own husband while a 911 dispatcher listened in horror.

Sheriff's deputies rushed to the Pecan Plantation gated community Thursday night around 10 pm.

When they got there they found Lavera slumped over in her car shot to death.

They arrested her husband Tom Dooley who admitted to shooting his wife according to the sheriff in Hood County.

Carl Atkison was a close business partner of dooley who owned The Aiken Insurance Group.

"It's the shock of all shocks. She was always really helpful to me."

Carl says she had a stellar reputation in the community.

"Very caring to her employees," says Carl "I dealt with her on quite a few occasions."

Friends and neighbors can't make sense of why something like this would happen.

Investigators say the 65-year-old was on the phone with a 911 dispatcher pleading for help.

She was trying to leave her driveway but was blocked in by her husband.

Officials say when he realized what she was doing he shot her multiple times while the 911 call was still open. Tommy Dooley A $500,000 bond.

Right now the 911 recordings aren't being released per the order of the District Attorney.
