Good Samaritan Killed Following Hit-&-Run Crash In Dallas
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A man who stopped to help out a driver after a hit-and-run crash was killed late Sunday night when he was struck by another vehicle. The incident happened at around 11:00 p.m. in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas, along the southbound lanes of Highway 67 near Kiest Boulevard.
According to police, a Ford Expedition and a Cadillac were involved in a collision. The driver of the Cadillac left the scene, but stopped about a quarter of a mile down the road. He then fled from his vehicle on foot. Authorities are still on the hunt for this individual.
Meanwhile, back at the crash scene, several vehicles stopped to offer assistance to 23-year-old Cesar Velasquez-Comacho after his Ford Expedition became stalled in the center lane. Michael Donnelly and Lyndsee Longoria were pushing the car from the back left corner when another vehicle approached.
Nigel Wilson was in the center lane of the highway when he spotted the Good Samaritans trying to help at the crash scene. He quickly swerved to the left to avoid the scene, but the 19-year-old driver ultimately struck both Donnelly and Longoria. Wilson did stop and remained at the scene.
The 38-year-old man was transported to a nearby hospital, but was later pronounced dead. The 26-year-old woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but has been upgraded to stable condition. Velasquez-Comacho and Wilson were also both taken to the hospital. There has been no report yet about their conditions.
Police shut down the Dallas highway for several hours so that they could investigate the crash. There are no charges currently pending.
