GARLAND (CBSDFW.COM) - Garland police are investigating a hit-and-run accident that left one person dead early Sunday morning on LBJ Freeway.

Police responded to a report at approximately 3:30 a.m. Sunday that someone had been run over in the 12500 block of East LBJ Freeway.

When officers arrived, they found a person lying on the ground in the middle of the highway.

Garland traffic investigators determined that the victim was the driver of a blue Honda and was with another person in the passenger side.

Investigators said the Honda was traveling eastbound on LBJ Freeway when it lost control and struck a guard-rail on the right side of the highway. It is currently unknown as to why the car lost control.

The Honda became disabled with the rear end of the vehicle resting in the right lane of traffic.

Police said a white Toyota traveling eastbound in the right lane struck the passenger side of the Honda.

This caused the driver of the Honda, who was still in the vehicle, to be ejected

The driver landed in the main lanes of traffic on LBJ Freeway.

Police said the driver was then struck by several vehicles who fled the scene.

According to police, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The passenger in the Honda was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Honda was identified as 19-year-old Mario Flores.

Garland investigators are asking anyone with information related to the accident to call police at 972.485.4840.
