LEWISVILLE (CBSDFW.COM) - Police say the death of a nearly three-year-old girl is a terrible tragedy after an unhinged door fell on her as her family was moving into their new home.

Family and friends of Iva Potter say the world lost a little angel.

"Just a sad, sad event. Very much so," says former neighbor Thomas Snee.

Snee lives next door from the home the family was moving out of in Flower Mound.  He says he remember little Iva playing with her twin sister, always giggling.

"I have a daughter and I know that if something terrible like that happened, it would completely destroy me. That would just be unbelievably painful. I could not imagine that happening," says Snee.

Iva's family requested privacy as they mourn.  But on Twitter, a person identifying herself as a family member tweeted, "RIP to my angel.  Being your big sister has been the best thing that's ever happened to me."  She also wrote, "I will never understand why things like this happen.  I don't know how it could have come down. It's just, it brings tears to your eyes. It's just a tragedy."

Iva's death is affecting police who're also having a hard time grasping what went wrong.

"There are some different theories that she may have somehow pulled the door on her. There's also kind of a wind tunnel effect going on through the garage into the house and maybe that wind caught the door and knocked it on her. I don't know if we'll ever truly know the answer to that," says Lewisville Police Captain Dan Rochelle.

As flowers sit at the steps of the home now stained in tragedy, family friends like Snee say the loss of Iva just isn't fair.

"When an innocent like that gets taken, it's just sad for the family," says Snee.
