FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Fort Worth first focused on getting residents to exercise, and now Cowtown has turned its attention to healthy eating. The city is joining a program on Tuesday that will track healthy food choices, and it is holding restaurants accountable.

Customers can start looking for 'Blue Zone Approved' locations by checking out the front windows or even the menus of their favorite restaurants and food stops. Click here to learn more about the program.

There are three Fort Worth restaurants joining the short 'Blue Zone' list on Tuesday. Righteous Foods on West Seventh Street, Juice Junkies on Foch Street and La Perla Negra on Houston Street are the first places being celebrated for their healthy options.

To be part of the project, restaurants must only serve bread when requested, and offer half-sized portions of their most popular dishes. And, of course, the menu must feature healthy dining options. The program was created by author Dan Buettner, whose focus is on living longer and healthier lives.

"I thought, I have to be part of this," said Juice Junkies owner Hillary Biediger. "This is what we are about."

The city plans to spread the 'Blue Zone' program to schools and workplaces over the next four years.

"Selfishly, for the city, it's better economic development," said Mayor Betsy Price on Tuesday. "Businesses come in and ask you about tax breaks, and they ask you about education and the work force. But they now ask you about the health of your community."
