Former Arlington Police Officer To Plead Guilty In Steroids Case
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) -- A fired Arlington police officer is set to plead guilty for his role in protecting an alleged drug dealer who sold anabolic steroids to department personnel.
Officer Thomas Kantzos has waived his rights to a trial and will plead guilty to one count of Exceeding Authorized Access to a Protected Computer. Authorities allege Kantzos improperly used a police computer to help tip off his steroids dealer.
Investigators say that Kantzos used police databases to slip information to an alleged dealer and helped arrange steroids sales to other officers.
Kantzos, an 18-year veteran with the Arlington Police Department, was fired after his arrest in June.
He faces a prison sentence of up to five years and a fine not to exceed $250,000.
The plea agreement was signed on Oct. 18 and will be formally submitted on Oct. 29.
Officer David Vo, 35, was also implicated in the drug ring and was arrested for allegedly buying and distributing illegal steroids. He committed suicide in June after bonding out of jail.
