Floodgates Fully Open At Lake Ray Roberts

DENTON (CBSDFW.COM) - The floodgates are fully open at Lake Ray Roberts. The Army Corps of Engineers made the decision to start releasing the water at 100 percent, and the gates were opened up at around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday night.
The water continued roaring out from the lake on Friday morning. More than 52,000 gallons of water are released each second.
The spillway at Lake Ray Roberts has become a hot spot for local fishermen.
But, with more storms on the way this weekend, Denton County homeowners who live downstream are feeling nervous. There has not been any flooding yet, but residents are watching and waiting.
The City of Denton's emergency management coordinator said that markers have been placed along area roads that are prone to flooding. However, there has been no indication, so far, that the water level near those roads is rising. The city is joining homeowners in closely watching the weather forecast, and how much rain might arrive in the coming days.
Meanwhile, the Army Corps of Engineers met Friday morning to discuss the next 24 hours. With more storms expected across North Texas on Saturday, there might be some changes to how much water is being released from the floodgates at Lake Ray Roberts -- if flooding becomes a greater concern.
