1 Killed In Seagoville Single-Engine Plane Crash

DALLAS COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) - CBS 11 News has confirmed a small plane has crashed in the Dallas County city of Seagoville.
Officials with the Mesquite Fire Department say the pilot, the only person onboard, was killed.
A distress call went out at 6:18 p.m. The Beech Bonanza single-engine aircraft was attempting to land at the Mesquite Airport when air traffic controllers lost radio and radar contact.
The plane was later found behind a home in the 1600 block of Bent Tree. The plane did not hit any nearby homes. An official with the Seagoville Police Department explained, "Because it's dark out here that's why we sent officers door-to-door, to every house out here along this road and every house around this area... to see if anybody's been hit."
The aircraft crashed in a wooded pasture area, with wreckage coming down within 50 feet of homes.
Some residents in the area told CBS 11 News they heard a loud boom, but did not see the actual crash. One man told CBS 11, "I heard a plane go down. I thought it was a plane... [it made] a noise like it was. Then I heard a boom."
Dark and damp conditions made it difficult for first responders and investigators.
No one on the ground was injured.
The Federal Aviation Administration and Texas Department of Transportation are investigating.
