A baby giraffe was born at the Detroit Zoo early Sunday morning, at around 2:30 a.m., but is "already standing strong, nursing well, and hitting all her important early milestones," according to zoo officials.
The spotless giraffe was born at Brights Zoo in Limestone, Tennessee, which is holding a naming contest.
Twiga was a Masai giraffe, an endangered species whose population has declined by more than half in recent decades.
Cece, who lives at the Binder Park Zoo in Battle Creek, received injections of stem cells to treat arthritis causing pain in her joints.
