Puppy returned to Ypsilanti pet store 5 days after it was stolen, business says
A pet store in Ypsilanti, Michigan, says a puppy stolen at the business by a woman on Monday was back in its possession on Saturday.
Stuart Collins, the owner of Pet City Pets, says surveillance video at the store around 5 p.m. showed the woman putting a black and tan Yorkshire terrier inside her coat and walking out. The video was shared on the business's Facebook page.
Collins says the man distracted employees by paying for a dollar's worth of crickets at the counter. He told CBS News Detroit in an interview on Friday night that the man and woman had called him to say they would return the puppy.
Pet City Pets said in a Facebook post on Saturday afternoon that the Yorkie was back.
"Our beloved Yorkie puppy is back at Pet City Pets after 5 exhausting days," the post said. "We want to say a big thanks to those of you who expressed your concerns, offered suggestions, and provided valuable information regarding this case! We could not have been successful without your support, which is much appreciated. We are evaluating her health right now and appreciate extra thoughts and prayers."
The store hasn't disclosed who brought back the puppy, which is pending adoption.
Collins said on Friday that he would be pressing charges. Police have been notified of the incident.
NOTE: The attached video first aired on Friday, before the puppy was back in possession of the business.
