Winter Weather Advisory: Snow, Freezing Rain Moving Into Metro Detroit
DETROIT (WWJ) - Be prepared for treacherous travel conditions as several inches of snow, plus sleet and freezing rain move into the metro Detroit area.
WWJ AccuWeather Meteorologist John Feerick says a few flakes may fall earlier, but the steady snowfall will begin around sunset Friday evening — continuing overnight before mixing with and changing to sleet, ice and freezing rain into Saturday morning.
"Total snow and ice accumulation four to six inches; certainly some slippery travel through the night and into tomorrow," Feerick said. "And as we head into tomorrow afternoon we'll climb above freezing. There could be a little bit of rain, and hopefully some improving travel."
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for 7 p.m. Friday until noon on Saturday for all of Southeast Michigan, including Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Livingston, Washtenaw, St. Clair, Lenawee and Monroe counties.
The National Weather Service says freezing rain could create a thin sheet of ice on top of the snow. Motorists should be prepared for slippery road conditions and limited visibility at times Friday night and early Saturday. Use caution while driving.
