Warren Mayor Weighs In On Detroit Water Dpt. Scandal

Warren Mayor Jim Fouts is proposing that there be proportional representation on the Detroit Water and Sewage Department  Board from other communities. Fouts wants to meet with Detroit Mayor Dave Bing to discuss the proposal in hopes of restoring trust from the public --- a week after grand jury indictments involving the department's contracts.

"The DWDS users have to know that they are properly represented to build public trust, and that public trust can only take place if you have proportional representation," Fouts said.

"I think we also have to look, with Mayor Bing, in looking at whether or rate-payers deserve some kind of a financial accountability, or even a rebate as a result of money lost, money waster, or money diverted -- or money outright stolen," he said.

Detroit provides water service to 126 Metro Detroit communities with a population of about 4 million people.
